5 Ways To Change The World Cup So That Americans Will Love Soccer

America was very close to embracing the World Cup and Soccer when Landon Donovon made that last second goal in the USA-Algeria World Cup match, but alas USA lost to Ghana. I believe the presentation of soccer/world cup is flawed and here are 5 ways to change the World Cup marketing efforts towards Americans.

1) Educate the average American. Explain the rules as much as possible at every step of the way. A lot of Americans do not watch the whole game, just snippets of the games here and there, so if you can explain how the rules work as much as possible it helps educate the American. What does a yellow flag do? What happens when there is 2, or when they get 2? What is extra time and how do the referees determine this?

2) Make it easier for Americans to watch the games. One big issue is that by the time Americans wake up to go to work most of the World Cup matches are over. Maybe host All-Night Party's at bars to watch the World Cup games at 4 in the morning to promote watching games in the mornings.

3) USA soccer should recruit some international talent to help the team be better than it is right now. Tim Howard is great, but defense doesn't win games.

4) Allow OVERTIME. Americans are competitive and having games end at 1-1 just don't cut it. At least do kick-offs!

5) Use Instant-Replays on Goals only. This way it doesn't slow down the game because Goals are so rare anyways, might as well use a little time to use instant replays because Goals are so important to a country and having to wait another 4 years to play again in a World Cup because the referee screwed up on a call will just kill a team.

If you guys have your own way to change the World Cup so that Americans Will Love Soccer, please state it in the comments section below.

Somehow integrate nascar into soccer. That'll do it.
