Groundhog Day

02/02/2009 - 00:00

Groundhog Day is a traditional festival celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2. It is a cross-quarter day, midway between the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equinox.

In traditional weather lore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day and fails to see its shadow because the weather is cloudy, winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow because the weather is bright and clear, it will be frightened and run back into its hole, and the winter will continue for six more weeks.

I noticed the comments degraded as the night went on. Groundhog Day is just a tradition, it's not like everyone takes the day off. Few people take it seriously. Chill out dude.

The US thinks of every way in which to have a holiday. and as for the "my child saw playboy" get over it. your kid will see things worse than that just walking on the street. what do you want to do blind him? kids in elementary school are wearing the short skirts they think are cool from "high school musical" or imitating hannah montana (which we all know is not a virgin). and who knows there may be a national holiday of short skirts or porn with the president we have now. quit being so dern PC and learn to realize that life is life take it or leave it and somtimes, bad things will come across. i dont understand why we hide the naked body so much in the US. go to Europe your child will see two naked women licking on the other in order to sell a box of cherrios. it is just the way it goes!!!

It's a nice day out. He's probably going to see his shadow. ARGH!

I went to pull up info on Groundhog Day for my kid and there were Playboy adds on the page with the info on it. So I had to turn it off and could not view the info. Could you please be more careful. Ground Hog day is obviously something children will be wanting info about! And adult adds are not appropriate.
