Start: 05/19/2012 - 00:00

End: 05/19/2012 - 23:59

In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. The day was created in 1949, and was a result of the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but observance of these days, especially within each particular service, continues to this day.

Memorial Day

Start: 05/28/2012 - 00:00

End: 05/28/2012 - 23:59

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. There are many stories as to its actual beginnings, with over two dozen cities and towns laying claim to being the birthplace of Memorial Day. There is also evidence that organized women's groups in the South were decorating graves before the end of the Civil War: a hymn published in 1867, "Kneel Where Our Loves are Sleeping" by Nella L.

Flag Day

Start: 06/14/2012 - 00:00

End: 06/14/2012 - 23:59

There are two recognized definitions of the term "Flag Day". The first definition is used to designate a day to fly a flag of a certain area, mostly that of nations; the second definition is used to designate a day set aside to honor an event specifically involving a national flag (e.g. creation/adoption).

End: 06/17/2012 - 23:59

Father's Day is a secular celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood and parenting by males, and to honor and commemorate fathers and forefathers.
