Every four years, on Election Day, (Tuesday after the first Monday in November), registered *voters in the United States cast their votes for presidential electors. Collectively, these electors form the Electoral College. The number of electors per state is equal to the number in its Congressional delegation. Thus, each state has at least three electors. Kansas has six electors and Missouri has eleven. These electors meet on the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday in December to elect the President and Vice-President.
In 1845, Congress established Election Day in response to abuses caused by the previous system of electing the President and Vice-President. Under the old system, states could appoint electors at any time within 34 days prior to the convening of electors in December.

boo obamba
ahahah BOOOO OBAMA BIN LaDAN
bloomberg should not be mayor again give some one else a chance your gonna regret it soon he will go mad with power and you will have to fire him just fire him now.ps im not joking
Wow, so many people dislike Obama here so chances are I'll sure get a lot of people angry at me. But whatever. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and if people disrespect that, why bother talking to them?
But anyway, here goes. I don't know much about politics, but I know some basic things like the views of each political party. Looking at each party's point of view, it wasn't hard for me to decide to share Democratic views.
It's hard for some people, but the scores say it all. Obama clearly won. Everything has a share of its bad apples, especially both political parties. While both encourage you to vote, some people from both sides make a bad example for those who are undecided. And, no disrespect, for we Democrats are guilty of this problem too, but last year there were an awful lot of bad examples on the Republican side.
For instance, I hear people saying that Obama's the Antichrist himself. I hear people accuse him of being a terrorist simply because his middle name is Hussein. I hear his presidency will herald the end of the world.
What I think? Rumors, at best. I mean, they were so sure he was going to swear oath on the Qur'an in inauguration day. What really happened? He swore on Abraham Lincoln's Bible instead. And last time I checked, Lincoln was Republican.
As for the end of the world mentioned by many religious leaders? Just a theory. Many have put a date on the end of the world, but the Bible clearly states that no one knows the day or the hour, except the Father. Jesus himself said that he would come when we least expect it.
Just because I'm not Republican doesn't mean I don't use the Bible. Sorry if I get all biblical here, but I'll do this merely for the sake of clearing some fog. Many religious leaders, who claim the end of the world is near and how it would end, are Protestants. According to history, Protestants didn't come up with the Bible, but the Catholics have. Protestanism didn't even exist till the Middle Ages, and by then just about everyone who believed in Christ was Catholic. Luther lead the Reformation (or whatever it was called) because Catholics made a bad example. True, Catholics made some mistakes in the past. But it's not that way anymore.
Don't get me wrong. Many religious leaders are making an excellent job, and I would encourage them to keep preaching as long as it's not about hating others. It's just that many people twist the words contained in the Bible, and as a result people get confused. In fact, my sister is an Atheist partly because of those bad examples (I have myself to blame for that too, but at least I tried to fix it on one occasion, at least).
My point? Don't bring religion into politics. If people encourage you to vote for one person simply because the other guy could be the Antichrist, don't take their word for it. Don't let other people's words determine the way you vote. After all, it's YOUR vote, no one else's. You should vote for someone you know you can trust. I don't care whether you become Republican or Democrat. Just go out there and vote for who YOU believe is the best candidate. Hearing each candidate's views and promises should be enough information to let you decide. Nothing else.
One more thing. For all the Obama haters. Please give him a chance. It's been less than a year that he's been our President and you're already itching to bite his head off. We put up with Bush for 8 years, and while he had some faults, he lasted for two terms. Two terms means people wanted him to stay as our President for a little longer. I don't pay attention to the news that much, but bush must have done something big to deserve two terms. Just wait for the next presidential election. If Obama hasn't kept any of his promises by then, fine. But if he has, wouldn't he deserve a second term?
All I'm asking is, just think about the facts and history. If people really wanted McCain for president, they should have paid closer attention to his speeches and encouraged people to do the same and less time scaring people into voting for him. While that did bring votes, the ones who didn't get scared where driven away.
Feel free to disagree. Feel free to scare me into not doing this again. Feel free to threaten me to stop believing in my beliefs. Feel free to taunt me. Feel free to make fun of me. Feel free to deliver hurtful words. I had a tough childhood, so whatever you throw at me won't come even close to making me budge. I made my decision to post this and I stand by it. So, to the people who might hate me simply by pointing out some truths: Give it your best shot.
Godspeed, everyone. Please meditate on what I have said. If you don't want to believe me, that's fine. I didn't do it to become popular, anyway. Take care.
Dont get me wrong, i am proud to have a black president. but i wanted John to win.
You are not exactly historically accurate regarding the Bible, Protestants and Catholics. Check your facts.
Hm, you may be right. It's been a while since I checked my sources.
I don't want to antagonize anyone or anything. I'm just asking everyone to give Obama a chance. I'm also asking not to bring religion into politics. That can only result in different arguments that could get the people confused.
Forgot one thing: I'm also asking everyone not to sweat the small stuff. So what if his middle name is Hussein? That doesn't make him a terrorist. It'll be like saying Benito Mussolini (Italian dictator, I believe, who sided with Hitler in WWII. Correct me if I'm wrong) and Benito Juarez (Mexican president from long ago, became famous for some or all of the laws he passed) share the same views. Just because someone shares the same name doesn't make that person equal in principles with the other person.
If Bush deserved two terms (and we went through a lot during his presidency, good and bad), wouldn't Obama deserve a second term if lots of great things happened during his presidency?
While the President leads the way of changing our way of life and our great country you are discussing his name? First check our Constitution then check your wallet.
The President has spent 4X's what President Bush has and all of us and our children are going to have to pay the bill, (with HIGH TAXES and HIGH INFLATION). For thoes who do not learn history are doomed to repeat history. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicade are all within a few years of being bankrupt, what makes anyone think that the Government run health care (insisted on by our President) is not going to go the same direction. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Most of you should pick up a real history book of the United States and actually read it. The rights we have were given to us by God not any government.
What really matters are the actions of our President, and our current President HATES the USA.
Can't argue with that. Since Obama's already our president, you might as well wait for the next presidential election and hope the other guy gets elected. Not really much I can say at this point, except good luck and hope everything goes well for you.
By the way, I brought up the name subject just to show the people how dealing with a person's name instead of talking about the real issues is childish at best. Besides, if Obama were a terrorist, everyone else would be screwed right about now, right?
To whom it may concern: Nothing bad (regarding the apocalypse and whatnot) is going to happen to the U.S. I'm confident it will not. But if it does, I rather spend my last hours with my family instead of worrying about it. Obama's our President now and, unless he's impeached, just wait 3 more years until the next presidential election. We're all in this rollercoaster ride together, and since there's no way to get out of it you might as well have to put up with it til its over.
you're all retarded
(i'm sorry only about 80% now that I look closer)
Well go ahead, throw your vote away to the Demoncrapublicans. They've been running the show for as long as any of us have been alive, and they haven't destroyed the entire planet yet. 400 more years!
I registered in Florida in 2008 and voted last election.
Now I moved to St. Petersburg, where is my district? No one knows!
My voter Registration # is: 116264184

HALOWEEN!!!
YEAHHH
yeah
Only those with a steak in America should vote in America. Only those who pay taxes should vote in America. Someone who has received more from America than they have contributed to America is a drag on society. Do we really want them to vote.
Margaret Thatcher said it best when she said that the problem with socialism is that sooner or later there is no one left to take money from in order to give it to someone else.
Allowing those who contribute nothing to America to vote will lead to the fall of America. Or should I say has led to the fall of America.
Mis-steak...Only those who can spell should be able to vote.
I love steak. You are making me hungry.
how about all of those foreign investors bankrolling our government? should they get to vote? how about those curently living under US occupation? now there's a "steak" if i ever tasted one.
This is....

Look up the definition of Oligarchy.... The people with the money and true power, regardless of political party affiliation, convince the masses to elect those who will perpetuate the Oligarchy... Dream on if you truly believe either, or any, political party will bring True change to this country.
"obama is the bomb so pick him for our president"
Whoever said this was so right they didn't even know it.
Obama has bombed, everywhere but in our enemy's midst.
I believe that Election Day should be a federal holiday to permit -- and encourage -- Americans to be full participants in the political process. It would especially assist the average working person, and give them an opportunity to go and cast a ballot, something that wealthy people can do without regard for punching a clock and having to work an eight hour (or more) day.
I remember very clearly working an election in a large midwestern city in 2000. We were encouraging the workers to go and vote. One woman stopped, said she wanted to, but wanted to know what time the polls closed. She was about to start her shift, she said, and she might have to work overtime, and besides, she had to pick up her kids from day care.
No worker -- and no mother -- should be forced to add more stress their already stressed lives. Every four years, we can take a single day and set it aside so that citizens of our country can help to decided the future of our country.
And while I would hope that this would lead to the re-election of President Obama, I am willing to take my chances with the decision of the American electorate. I say, let the voters decide -- but let's make sure every voter has an opportunity to cast a ballot on Election Day - our next Federal Holiday.
i believe that its the law that every worker has to be given two hours off so that they can go vote.
Um....
Absentee ballot anybody?
I am proposing a National Day of Remembrance to replace the one stolen by Obama on September 11. I would like all Americans to REMEMBER on November 3, 2009, Election Day, how politicians from the most local to the highest level in the land have tried to steal our country and ignore what we have
This is a rant and bears no relationship to reality. It was probably posted by a FOX news reporter on their off time.
Steal the country from whom and ignore what?
This makes no sense, please clarify exactly what the **** it is you're talking about.
Swelling government programs making so many more people dependent upon support from the democrat government, thereby leaning democrat next election cycle for fear of losing said monies.
Where is the change?
For too long, each party has resembled the other once in Office. We hoped for a person who could forget party affiliation once in office.
We hoped it would be obama.
It is not. Sadly, 4 years from now we will have a much larger government, more people dependent upon it, and a deficit triple what it was when he took office.
I hoped for more. So much more.
I felt the same after Bush finished. He added $5 trillion to the National Debt, this on top of the $2 trillion Reagon added so it is going to be hard to pay for all this.
Obama and the Democraps are easily outdoing Bush on deficits and piling on the debt. We are on track to have a $2 trillion dollar debt this year. Yep Trillion with a T.
Guess who won
Always,
E.
obama sucks
I agree(:
Obama is a do nothing joke of a senator. But I'm sure TV told you otherwise didn't it?:
"TV good - TV my friend, TV says and I do. We luv TV. TV say vote Obama, Oprah In TV, say vote Obama, TV say Obama good, McCain bad, so I vote Obama because I believe TV. TV my friend." :)
whoever listens to everything the tv says is carzy!
Obama "the best president we ever had"? That must've been soomme large scale brain washing they dished out on you. "Best president?" Get real, he's not even a good senator!
It's really not effective telling people to vote for someone because they're educated when you make numerous, simple mistakes. (ex. "womens are spartter," "choosed" (used multiple times), "Palin is a women" (last time I checked, she's only one person)
haha! i noticed that too! But in your face McCain lover! Obama won! and he'll be the best prez. we ever had! Whoop Whoop!
VOTE FOR McCain then Obama is not going to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE VOTE FOR MCCAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE VOTE FOR MCCAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am BEGGING YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PLEASE VOTE FOR JOHN MCCAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!Womens are spartter and JOHN MCCAIN choosed Sarah Palin amd Sarah Palin is a women.Obama choosed an old man for his vice president and his name is Joseph Biden.
obama is the bomb so pick him for our president
OBAMA SUCK ASS
Stop trashing your president! he is "YOUR" president, like it or not!!
